MyVideo Special for BE KIND REWIND Sparks ‘Sweding’ Trend

‘Sweded’ versions of Scary Movie, Titanic and others have already been watched more than 380,000 times.

“Sweded” films are the latest trend, launched by Jack Black, the star of Michel Gondry’s new film BE KIND REWIND. It means making your own version of a favourite film using homemade props and equipment, a handful of friends and plenty of imagination. That is also what lead actors Jack Black and Mos Def do in BE KIND REWIND after they accidentally erase every videotape in their video store. They promptly take matters into their own hands and breathe new life into their neighbourhood with their Sweded videos.

To mark today’s cinema release, an official film special is available at http://abgedreht.myvideo.de, where amateur directors can win prizes including a trip to New York with an acting workshop at the New York Film Academy. Even before the film opened in German cinemas, numerous creative MyVideo users had Sweded their favourite films, from Scary Movie and Indiana Jones to Rocky and Titanic. These distinctive versions of popular cinema classics have already been watched more than 380,000 times on MyVideo.de. Sweded videos can be submitted to the special until 23 April.

Dominic Hesse, Head of Content and Cooperations at Magic Internet GmbH, MyVideo.de’s media agency, comments: “The ‘Sweding’ trend is being enthusiastically embraced by numerous video directors. Films, whether re-enacted, parodied or treated in similar ways, have always been a major source of inspiration for the MyVideo community. BE KIND REWIND and the joint campaign on http://www.myvideo.de now provide another reason to get the camera out and recreate a favourite film in an individual version with friends.”
