Senator Adds Three New Films to Its Distribution Slate

Successful acquisitions for 2008 and 2009: science-fiction thriller SPLICE, entertaining documentary YOUNG@HEART and outrageous comedy SUPERHERO MOVIE.

SPLICE

Marco Weber of Senator Entertainment Inc. serves as executive producer on SPLICE together with director and producer Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”, “Hellboy”). The science-fiction thriller is produced by Steve Hoban of Copperheart Entertainment and Gaumont. In addition to the German rights, Senator acquired the American and Spanish rights. With SPLICE, genre specialist Vincenzo Natali (“Cypher”, “Cube”) makes a powerful return.

The film tells the story of a young, talented pair of researchers whose illegal genetic experiments with animal and human DNA create a new kind of species that could take evolution to a new level. As the two build their careers on the discovery, the consequences of their experiment catch up with them. The thriller stars Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”, “King Kong”, “The Village”) and Sarah Polley (“Don’t Come Knocking”, “Dawn of the Dead”) and will reach cinemas in 2009.

SUPERHERO MOVIE

From 17 July 2008, the unvarnished truth about superheroes will be told. Rick Riker is Dragonfly. He is young and cool and possesses incredible superpowers. Rick’s only problem is that he does not always know how to use them very effectively …

Following in the tradition of “The Naked Gun” and “Scary Movie”, producer and comedy veteran David Zucker assembles an extraordinary gang of completely inept superheroes in SUPERHERO MOVIE, led by Drake Bell (“Yours, Mine & Ours”, “High Fidelity”), Leslie Nielsen (“The Naked Gun”), Tracy Morgan (“G-Force”), Pamela Anderson (“Baywatch”, “Barb Wire”, “Scary Movie 3”) and Regina Hall (“Scary Movie 2–4”). With SUPERHERO MOVIE, blockbusters such as “Spider-Man”, “Batman”, “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four” take on a new meaning. And believe us: abdominal training has never been so much fun.

YOUNG@HEART

Before then, audiences will be rocking in their cinema seats: YOUNG@HEART arrives on German screens in early summer 2008. A Methuselah conspiracy? Not at all: rock ’n’ roll will never die! They sing songs by The Clash, the Ramones and Coldplay; some of the choir members have lived through both world wars, and they enchant their audiences. They are YOUNG@HEART, the choir of older people founded in 1982 that tours the United States and Europe with rock ’n’ roll hits and recently moved German audiences to tears of joy. YOUNG@HEART is also the title of Stephen Walker’s documentary, which has already won numerous prizes, including the audience award at the 2007 Los Angeles Film Festival and the Golden Rose for Best Documentary at the 2007 Rose d’Or Festival in Lucerne.
