This year, DIGITAL PRODUCTION will present the animago AWARD for the twelfth time. A renowned and experienced jury reviews and honours the submitted material in the areas of Film, Interactive and Still. Eleven animago AWARDs will be presented at the ceremony.
Categories and Prizes
“The animago AWARD categories are clear and well defined,” says Matthias J. Lange, editor-in-chief of DIGITAL PRODUCTION, which organises the animago AWARD. “Competition is the best further training; measure yourself against the best in the industry and secure one of the coveted prizes.” The animago AWARD is presented in the following categories:
- Best Production (Main Prize)
- Best International Cinema Production
- Best University Production
- Best Technical Realisation
- Best Idea
- Best Character
- Best Visualisation
- Best Still
- Best Interactive Production

The Categories in Detail
The categories are:
- Best Production (Main Prize — the best overall production of the competition year, taking the use of DCC techniques into account),
Best University Production (Promotional Prize — the best completed DCC project from a public or private university),
Best Technical Realisation (the best use of existing DCC tools and/or the development of new technology to achieve advances in realism, aesthetics or creative possibilities.),
Best Idea (the best idea underlying a DCC production),
Best Character (the most convincing CG character in terms of movement, facial animation, texturing and credibility),
Best Visualisation (the most successful illustration of a subject, product or process using DCC),
Best Still (Still judging area only — the most convincing still in terms of design, aesthetics and effective use of DCC),
Best Interactive Production (Interactive judging area only — the most convincing production in terms of design for interaction with the user),
Best Advertising Production (the commercial that is most convincing not only in its idea but also in its look and execution.), Jury Prize (a special award from the jury to honour a work that has been particularly impressive.)
An animago AWARD “Honorary Award” will also be presented for services to the German 3D industry. Last year, the recipient was Bully Herbig.
Register and Submit Now
Registration for this year’s animago AWARD is now available through the Animago website. The submission deadline is June 30, 2008. Participation is free and open to everyone; further information can be found online. The productions will be assessed by a distinguished, independent jury. Legal recourse is excluded.
Awards Ceremony — Save the Date
The animago AWARD 2008 will once again be presented as part of digital creation days. In 2007, the prizes were presented in the stylish setting of the Konzerthaus Karlsruhe. In 2008, the industry will meet again in Karlsruhe from November 12 to 13 for digital creation days, with interesting workshops, networking and, of course, the presentation of the animago AWARD on November 12.
