The Grace children, Jared, his twin brother Simon, and their older sister Mallory, move with their mother to the remote estate of their great-great-uncle Arthur Spiderwick. They are met by strange events. Objects disappear, things fall, and noises are heard. At first, everything is attributed to Jared’s vivid imagination or dismissed as a childish prank, but Jared knows there is more behind it.
In the hidden Spiderwick library in the attic, he finds Arthur Spiderwick’s “Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You” and, despite every warning, opens the way to a realm of sprites, fairies, gnomes, and goblins. The rest of his family soon realizes that the magical world is more real than they would like.
Child actor Freddie Highmore, known from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Arthur and the Invisibles, plays the twins Jared and Simon in a dual role. The film is a darkly suspenseful fantasy adventure filled with mysteries and creatures.
