As a scalable server solution, Final Cut Server automatically catalogs large data collections. Searches span multiple storage volumes, allowing users on a Mac or PC, in the studio or over the internet, to review, rate, and approve media.
“Whether producing a 30-second commercial, a late news edition, or a complete animated film, Final Cut Studio is the first choice for editors around the world,” said Rob Schoeben, Apple Vice President of Applications Product Marketing. “With Final Cut Server, collaboration is now even easier for millions of editors, producers, and other Final Cut Studio users.”
“We have used a beta version of Final Cut Server to manage our entire workflow around the clock for the past several months, and it simply worked wonderfully,” added Radical Media CTO Evan Schechtman. “Best of all, Final Cut Server integrates seamlessly into our custom solution, immediately adding value to the system we have developed over the years.”
Final Cut Server automatically catalogs assets and creates thumbnails, preview images, and clips at custom resolutions for rapid review. Cross-platform programming provides search functions ranging from simple keywords to complex combinations of IPTC, XMP, and XML metadata on a PC or Mac. User permissions specify who can access particular data or projects.
Customizable templates can represent common workflows ranging from two-person postproduction houses to global news operations. The required degree of workflow automation can be configured as needed. A configurable monitoring system determines project status, logs changes to media content, and automates review and approval notifications as well as complex processes through menu-driven controls.
Tight integration with Final Cut Studio extends the workflow. Final Cut Server includes Compressor 3, Apple’s encoding and compression tool, and provides conversions for content delivery on DVD, broadcast television, the internet, Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, and other mobile phones.
