In the year-ago quarter, revenue was $5.26 billion and net profit was $770 million, or $0.87 per share. Gross margin was 32.9 percent, compared with 35.1 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 44 percent of the quarter’s revenue.
Apple shipped 2,289,000 computers during the second quarter of fiscal 2008, representing 51 percent unit growth and 54 percent revenue growth over the comparable year-ago quarter. The company sold 10,644,000 iPods during the quarter, representing one percent unit growth and eight percent revenue growth compared with Q2 2007. Apple also sold 1,703,000 iPhones during the quarter.
“We are very pleased to report 43 percent revenue growth and the strongest March quarter for revenue and earnings in Apple’s history,” says Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “With more than $17 billion in revenue in the first half of the fiscal year, we are strongly positioned to introduce some outstanding new products in the coming quarters.”
“We are thrilled to have generated $4 billion in cash from operations during the first half of the fiscal year, resulting in available cash of more than $19.4 billion,” adds Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer. “We expect revenue of $7.2 billion and diluted earnings per share of $1.00 for the third fiscal quarter of 2008.”
