This spring, Canon will support the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival as a premium partner for the first time. As the oldest and most renowned festival in its class, it attracts up to 16,000 visitors to Oberhausen every year, including international filmmakers, cineastes, emerging artists and representatives from the arts, culture and politics.
In the Festival Space, Canon will present its latest HD camcorders and give visitors an opportunity to exchange experiences with experts on filming in the high-definition standard.
From 1 to 6 May, Oberhausen will once again become a meeting place for filmmakers and cineastes from around the world. Founded in 1954, the Oberhausen festival is regarded as the oldest of its kind and has played a decisive role in shaping the development of short film.
Renowned directors such as Martin Scorsese, Agnès Varda and Roman Polanski made their debuts here long before achieving international recognition. Each year, 400 films and videos by the next generation are shown in around 100 screenings. A total of 132 short films and videos from 47 countries are competing in four competitions—the international and German competitions, the MuVi Award for the best German music video, and the children’s and youth film competition—for prize money totaling €38,500.
Canon is supporting the festival as a sponsoring partner for the first time this year and will have a promotional stand. Film enthusiasts can view the entire Canon HD camcorder range there and discuss it with Canon’s promotional team.
Weekend workshops will also feature renowned documentary filmmaker Martin Gremmelspacher reporting on his journeys in the Himalayas through breathtaking moving images professionally recorded in HD quality.
“We are very much looking forward to our involvement in the Short Film Festival and hope to have many interesting conversations with filmmakers there about developments in high-definition technology,” says Bettina Steeger, PR Manager at Canon Germany.
