Universal EWMS Set-Top Box Presented to the Public for the First Time

At Medientreffpunkt Mitteldeutschland, Hit-TV.eu is presenting the prototype of the universal EWMS HT 100 / EWMS HT 50 set-top box to the public for the first time.

We designed the EWMS HT 100 box as a receiver for free television and video services from the internet. It is designed for HD and SD content.

The basic configuration can play:

Streamed web TV stations / web radio stations

On-demand services

Online video libraries

Online video recorders

Future television-related services

Users’ own media files

It also provides access to communities. All boxes are network-enabled.

The higher-end EWMS HT 500 configuration additionally includes the DVB standards T/S/S2/C.

Unlike existing IPTV boxes tied to particular providers, EWMS boxes allow independent providers to display their content on a home television without a PC.

EWMS boxes are suitable for pay TV and free TV. Their design also allows pay-TV channels to be activated temporarily. This can be offered, for example, in addition to pay-TV packages delivered via IPTV, opening up an entirely new business area for pay-TV providers.

A special feature of the box is that every program provider can be offered a return channel for interacting with viewers. Possible applications include voting, purchases, games and much more. The return channel is independent of the outbound channel and can therefore be combined with all transmission methods (DVB-T/S/S2/C).

In combination with a special server application, the box also measures audience ratings. Results can be broken down in detail, for example by transmission method, resolution and other criteria. With the viewer’s consent and in compliance with data-protection requirements, measurements can even be personalized. This gives small and medium-sized providers that are not covered by GfK an interesting market-research tool.

The standards developed by the IPTV association are currently being implemented in all EWMS boxes to achieve maximum compatibility.

The box is based on Windows. Further applications can therefore be integrated easily, provided the interfaces are observed.

Set-top-box manufacturers can license the software.

Alongside detailed information about Hit-TV.eu itself, the Hit-TV.eu stand at Medientreffpunkt Mitteldeutschland provides information about the Ge-Werbefernsehen project. This product line is a specialized, cost-effective application for commercial and retail businesses to present products, services and much more in HD quality on one or more monitors. The software can play various video, audio and graphics formats, as well as websites, under playlist control. It includes an editor for creating custom advertising boards, allowing each user to assemble an individual program.

With an online connection, any Hit-TV.eu content can be incorporated freely.

The system can also be maintained remotely online, allowing several customers to be supplied with content from a central location.

Another focus of the Hit-TV.eu stand is the presentation of high-definition content on the Hit-TV.eu website. Examples demonstrate the quality that is already possible on the web with current technology.
