Macromedia University Announces 2008 Media Award for Upper-Secondary Students

EUR 1,000 in prize money; submission deadline 30 June 2008.

Macromedia University of Applied Sciences for Media in Munich has announced its 2008 Media Award for students in Bavaria. Upper-secondary students can submit artistic work to the Bavarian university until 30 June 2008. A specialist jury will select the winner in accordance with the competition and participation rules. The award carries EUR 1,000 in prize money and will be presented at the university on 18 July 2008.

“With the award, we want specifically to support students with creative ideas and artistic talent and demonstrate that visual communication is a profession with a very strong future,” explains Professor Eckhard Rocholl, who heads the Digital Media Production program. “There is no doubt that artistic education is still misunderstood and receives far too little attention in schools. The internationalization of working life requires international visual communication. Special support for students in these professional fields is a central component of the programs offered at our university. In the future, we want to work much more closely with secondary schools to prepare the path toward choosing these careers,” the media designer says, outlining the direction of his subject.

“Our students undergo tremendous development. They learn not only theory and film technology. They develop their creative potential into an artistic position and must be able to defend it through their graduation film,” says Professor Michael Leuthner, Professor of Cinematography in the Film and Television program, explaining the commitment to art.

Every work assessed by the jury will be published online by Macromedia University. An exhibition of selected artwork at the university’s Munich campus is also planned. Complete information about the Media Award and participation is available on the university website.
