The Tube users can share live digital television programming with others through iChat, alert friends to their TubeToGo web gallery, and subscribe to their recordings as podcasts on the Apple TV in the living room. The Tube 2.7 also offers numerous additional Leopard features.
Placeshift: share live TV with friends via iChat
The Tube 2.7 introduces placeshifting: live digital television programming can now be shared with others through iChat Theater. Leopard users simply drag a The Tube icon onto an active video chat to enjoy a television program with friends through iChat Theater. The iChat participant can even record the transmitted TV show as a video clip.
Subscribe to TV recordings as TubeToGo podcasts
Recorded TV programs in the TubeToGo web gallery can now be retrieved as RSS podcasts and submitted directly to the iTunes directory as podcasts for subscription through Apple TV. Users can send an email to alert friends to their web gallery. To keep track of television programs themselves, they can save individual entries from the electronic program guide (EPG) to iCal and receive an automatic reminder before a programme starts.
More power under Leopard
The Tube users now benefit even more from Mac OS X 10.5. Recordings can be displayed clearly as stacks in the Dock, and QuickLook can preview recorded TV programming. The Tube uses Core Graphics animations in its program interface and can exclude The Tube recordings from Time Machine backups to keep backup sizes manageable.
