Autodesk Plans to Acquire Moldflow

With the Moldflow acquisition, Autodesk is extending its digital-prototyping strategy into the plastic-parts market.

Autodesk recently signed an agreement in preparation for acquiring Moldflow Corporation. The US company is a leading provider of plastic injection-molding simulation software that makes it possible to simulate and optimize the behavior of plastic parts at every stage of the manufacturing process.

Autodesk is pursuing its digital-prototyping strategy. In the future, plastics-processing industries such as automotive suppliers and toy manufacturers will consequently also benefit from end-to-end digital product development.

“Autodesk and Moldflow solutions complement one another exceptionally well. This will integrate leading simulation and optimization capabilities into our digital-prototyping product portfolio and expand the capabilities of our software solutions for customers,” says Carl Bass, President and CEO of Autodesk.

The acquisition is expected to close by the middle of the year and will cost approximately USD 297 million. Moldflow generated revenue of USD 55.9 million in fiscal year 2007. Autodesk will continue to support existing Moldflow customers following the acquisition.
