Codemasters, one of Europe’s leading developers and publishers of PC and video games, today announced Race Driver: GRID™ as the new official title for the next instalment of the renowned Race Driver series.
Previously known under the project name Race Driver One, Race Driver: GRID will take pole position as the latest racing experience from Codemasters Studios—the makers of Colin McRae: DiRT™ and the Race Driver series—from mid-2008. Developed for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Race Driver: GRID focuses on the essentials: players should enjoy every moment of racing, from the nervous tension on the starting grid to the relief of the chequered flag.
“Racing is at the heart of Race Driver: GRID,” says Gavin Raeburn, Executive Producer at Codemasters Studios. “The evolution of our DiRT Engine and more than a decade of experience developing racing games enable us to put players closer to the action than ever before. Accidents, a tightly packed field, intelligent rivals and an unmatched racing atmosphere will combine to create a spectacle never experienced before.”
“GRID is not about collecting cars or spending all your time in menus with tuning settings—it is about the action on the racetrack: the tension, the duels, the spectacular manoeuvres. We want to make racing games exciting again!” says Ralph Fulton, Chief Game Designer of Race Driver: GRID.
In Race Driver: GRID, players prove their ability on meticulously designed circuits across three continents and in an unprecedented variety of compelling competitions. At the wheel of the most sought-after racing cars, only a podium place counts in competitions on officially licensed permanent circuits, before challenging street and city races demand everything from the player.
In Europe, players take part in traditional motorsport series featuring prestigious brands such as Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani. In the US, players aim to make a name for themselves as racing drivers in street races through San Francisco, Washington, DC and Detroit at the wheel of V8 muscle cars.
Japanese motorsport culture challenges players in night races through neon-lit city centres or drifting duels over remote mountain passes. Finally, the game even brushes against illegality when players take part in notorious races through Yokohama’s harbour districts.
Race Driver: GRID will be released in mid-2008 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A place on the starting grid can be secured now at http://www.codemasters.de/grid.
