After causing the death of his seven-year-old daughter Leonie through a fatal decision, formerly successful painter David (Mads Mikkelsen) has lost control of his life. One day, however, he discovers a door that gives him the opportunity to start again. What begins as a promising chance for a new beginning soon turns into a true nightmare, because not everything in the past is as it seems.

Alongside Mads Mikkelsen (“Casino Royale,” “After the Wedding”), an outstanding ensemble of German actors appears, including Jessica Schwarz (“Buddenbrooks,” “Why Men Don’t Listen and Women Can’t Read Maps”), Thomas Thieme (“The Lives of Others”), and Heike Makatsch (“Love Actually,” “Anatomy 2”). THE DOOR is directed by Anno Saul, whose most recent cinema films were “Where Is Fred?” and “Kebab Connection.”

THE DOOR is produced by Ralph Schwingel and Stefan Schubert for Wüste Film, in co-production with Christoph Müller for Senator Film Produktion. The project is supported by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, the German Federal Film Board (FFA), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB), and the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF).
