The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has honored the compact and flexible Cintiq 12WX Interactive Pen Display with the 2008 TIPA Award as Europe’s best photography and imaging product in the Digital Accessory category. The respected award was presented during the TIPA General Assembly in Rome, attended by editors from its 27 member magazines in 11 European countries.
TIPA was founded as an independent nonprofit association for European photography and imaging magazines. Once a year, TIPA’s member magazines meet to select Europe’s best products. The decisive criteria are innovation, ergonomics, design, ease of handling, and value for money.
TIPA President Thomas Gerwers said of the Cintiq 12WX: “The jury was particularly impressed by the intuitive way of working made possible by combining cordless, battery-free pen technology with a high-resolution display. Photos are edited and retouched with the pen directly on the screen. The Cintiq’s technical features also provide extended functionality in image-editing programs, allowing effects to be controlled precisely and realistic results to be achieved. We believe the Cintiq 12WX is a particularly valuable tool for digital image editing and will appeal equally to enthusiasts and professional users.”

The highlight of the Cintiq 12WX is its manageable size combined with an attractive design. Its slim dimensions and weight of only 2,000 grams allow the ergonomically designed Cintiq 12WX to be used flexibly. Combining a high-resolution 12.1-inch flat-panel display with a pressure-sensitive pen allows users to work directly on the screen. The display has a WXGA resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels at a color depth of 24 bits and offers a wide viewing angle of 170 degrees.
ExpressKeys and Touch Strips allow operation of the Cintiq to be adapted to the user’s personal workflow. The ExpressKeys are two freely programmable blocks with five keys each, preset with frequently used functions such as Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and Space, along with special functions including Display Toggle. The Touch Strip behaves like a scroll bar, enabling easy zooming and scrolling in photography applications.

The Cintiq 12WX includes an ergonomically shaped, battery-free and cordless Grip Pen. With a resolution of 5,080 lpi and 1,024 pressure levels for both the pen tip and eraser, it operates with great precision and control. The Interactive Pen Display also recognizes a pen-tilt angle of up to 60 degrees, allowing pen, brush, or eraser strokes to appear highly natural and authentic.
The Cintiq 12WX ships with Corel Painter Essentials and is available from retailers for €1,189.90, the recommended retail price including VAT.
The TIPA winning products will be honored on the opening day of this year’s Photokina.
