Within .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET 3.5 provides the technologies for developing web applications. Together with the tools in the Visual Studio 2008 development environment, it can significantly increase web developers’ productivity. This book shows how to create web applications using the current version of Microsoft’s HTTP request-processing framework, ASP.NET 3.5.

Topics include:

  • Fundamentals
  • Advanced features
  • Caching and state management
  • Finding errors and extending the HTTP pipeline
  • Web services, AJAX, deployment and Silverlight

The book is structured so that most chapters can be read independently. All example files are included on CD, while the accompanying DVD contains a 90-day trial version of Visual Studio 2008 Professional.

Logically organized in terms of content, the book moves at a fairly brisk pace after an initial, almost unnecessary introduction to HTML fundamentals. Although it provides many tips, some basic knowledge of web development and working with developer tools is required. It remains unclear whether the book will also be published for VB.net developers, as has happened with similar textbooks. In any event, the new features of version 3.5, which are presented in detail in this book, are well worth exploring.
