In July, ZDF will provide comprehensive coverage of World Youth Day in Sydney from 15 to 20 July 2008, including the concluding Mass with Pope Benedict XVI, a report on ZDFinfokanal, several internet streams from the papal visit and a video blog by young participants.
Pope Benedict XVI will visit the major event in Australia from 17 to 20 July. Organizers expect up to 250,000 young people from around the world in Sydney. ZDF will broadcast the concluding Mass with the head of the Catholic Church on Sunday, 20 July, at 9:30 a.m. German time. Beforehand, the program sonntags will report on World Youth Day at 9:02 a.m.
The Pope’s arrival on Thursday, 17 July, the Stations of the Cross on Friday, 18 July, and the vigil on Saturday, 19 July, will each be available as streams in ZDFmediathek.
Under the title “Down Under with the Pope,” ZDFinfokanal will broadcast a summary of World Youth Day at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, 20 July, repeated at 9:45 p.m. the same evening and at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, 21 July. Beginning Monday, 7 July, interested visitors can follow everything about World Youth Day in an online diary at zdf.de.
Three young people will report in a video blog about their journey to Australia, their experiences during the Days of Encounter outside Sydney and World Youth Day itself. A blogger will report from Altenberg near Cologne, where Germany’s largest World Youth Day camp is taking place: 1,000 young people will hold a tent camp there to experience World Youth Day at home as a public-viewing event on a large screen.
