ACE and IMAGO – New Partners of the Filmmaker’s Festival
eDIT 11th Filmmaker’s Festival will offer a further improved program with new partners. The festival has agreed on partnerships with ACE, American Cinema Editors, and IMAGO, the European Federation of Cinematographers. Both partners will organize high-profile workshops and presentations within the festival program for editors, cinematographers and other interested filmmakers.
“Participation in the Filmmaker’s Festival gives cinematographers throughout Europe an important platform for exchanging ideas about creative filmmaking with one another and with other film professionals. Improved mutual understanding will enhance collaboration between departments,” explains Nigel Walters, President of IMAGO.
Jenni McCormick, Executive Director of ACE, says: “American Cinema Editors looks forward to a long-term partnership with the Filmmaker’s Festival.”
Specific program offerings will be available online from mid-July.
Visual-Effects Focus: Academy Award Winners Announced
Visual effects and computer animation remain a focus of the Filmmaker’s Festival. It is already clear that the 2008 program will again meet the high standards of previous years. Tom Atkin, the festival’s US co-director and founder of the Visual Effects Society, has received firm commitments from prominent VFX experts including:
John Nelson, winner of the VFX Oscar® for Gladiator, will present the visual effects of the spring blockbuster Iron Man.
Joel Hynek, winner of the Oscar® for What Dreams May Come, will explain the visual effects of The Mummy III—and judging by its predecessors, there is plenty to anticipate.
John Gaeta, winner of the Oscar® for The Matrix, will show how the digital madness of Speed Racer was produced.
Craig Barron, Governor of the Visual Effects Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will explain the techniques and background of matte painting.
ILM has also announced that it will show the VFX of Indiana Jones IV. Additional presenters and topics will be added over the coming weeks. The complete program will be available online in mid-July.
