Powerflasher GmbH software licenses worth more than €10,000 were presented to Professor Holger Reckter, professor of Interactive Media at Harz University of Applied Sciences, on Thursday.
At the university’s premises in Wernigerode, Carlo Blatz, owner of Aachen-based Powerflasher GmbH, and HR Manager Robertina Matic presented 17 licenses for the “Enterprise” edition of the Powerflasher FDT Flash development environment.
“Our goal is to provide professors and lecturers with a convenient tool that allows students to concentrate on the actual intellectual work of programming and that they are also highly likely to use later in their professional careers after successfully graduating,” Blatz said at the presentation.
“Our experience shows that programming interactive Flash applications usually involves complex software development. A corresponding development environment, of the kind otherwise familiar only from Java or other high-level programming languages, is therefore necessary.”
FDT is developing into the standard tool worldwide for programming interactive online and offline applications with Flash and ActionScript 2/3. The Eclipse plug-in, which extends the open-source development environment with the ActionScript 2/3 high-level language, is winning over developers around the world with numerous convenient features.

The Aachen multimedia agency also benefits from providing the licenses free of charge and thus investing in education. The company had already hired four graduates from the Harz region in the past, gaining highly qualified employees. Powerflasher’s very positive experience with students at Harz University of Applied Sciences means that the company is now also offering internships in programming and graphic design.
“The Media Informatics degree program at Harz University of Applied Sciences is of very high quality, so we are always pleased to receive applications from graduates and diploma students,” Matic explained. “We are also happy to support students with their diploma theses.”
The first university graduate, Malte Beyer, is now Head of Software Development Agency at Powerflasher. In addition to his development work and team leadership, Beyer also taught lectures at Harz University of Applied Sciences that gave students a compact introduction to professional software development with ActionScript.
Further lectures are already planned for the winter semester. Mattes Groeger and Stephan Partzsch successfully completed their diploma theses at Powerflasher, and later employment is expressly desired. Sina Kümmel and Cordula Stingl will begin the first promising three-month internships in Aachen in August.
