Thanks to OptiColor technology, the model covers up to 118 percent of the National Television System Committee (NTSC) colour space. By comparison, conventional CRT monitors and many LCD displays achieve no more than 70 to 80 percent of the NTSC standard. The expanded colour space allows professional users such as graphic designers to match on-screen displays and print results more precisely. Multimedia publishers and photographers gain a new, broad spectrum of colour diversity and consistency. With its excellent image quality, the LED-backlit LCD screen is recommended for professional desktop-publishing and CAD/CAM applications, as well as demanding video editing.
The elegant, slim, piano-black LCD monitor has an HD resolution of 1680 × 1050 pixels, an enormous contrast ratio of 12,000:1 and a very fast response time of 5 ms. It offers analogue connectivity and digital connectivity via DVI with HDCP for lossless signal transmission. Integrated stereo speakers and the included SRS WOW HD audio software provide respectable sound reproduction. The VLED221wm presents itself as an ultimate display for virtually all high-resolution content.
During development of the VLED221wm, attention was paid not only to an environmentally friendly design without mercury, but also to reducing power consumption to just 36 watts. The VLED221wm’s technology therefore combines expanded colour reproduction and a greatly increased contrast ratio with lower energy costs, while retaining the advantages of a large-screen monitor.
With its Pixel Performance warranty for the VLED221wm, ViewSonic exceeds the ISO 13406-2 Class 2 requirements governing defective pixels in desktop monitors. ViewSonic guarantees immediate replacement of the display during the DOA period if three bright or dark subpixels, or a combination of four bright and dark subpixels in total, are defective. ViewSonic therefore offers a consumer-friendly defective-pixel policy matched by very few manufacturers.
The VLED221wm is Windows Vista certified and complies with Energy Star guidelines. Environmentally compatible materials were used in manufacturing the monitor.
The warranty period is three years, including on-site replacement service. The display is now available from specialist retailers at a recommended retail price of €469 including VAT.
