According to ÖWA (Austrian Web Analysis), pages with editorial content on ORF.at generated 207 million page impressions in June. This not only gave ORF.at by far the highest figure among all measured services, but also set a new all-time record and represented an increase of 30 percent compared with June of the previous year.
Thomas Prantner, ORF Director of Online and New Media, said: “These figures are a tremendous success for ORF Online. The fact that pages with editorial content accounted for 92 percent of a total of 225 million page impressions in June demonstrates users’ great confidence in the journalistic expertise of ORF.at and emphatically confirms ORF.at’s leading role as Austria’s strongest online information medium.”
ORF.at also remained the undisputed leader among all measured services in unique clients and visits, making it the clear market leader. With 3.776 million unique clients—23 percent more than in June 2007—ORF.at almost matched the January 2008 record of 3.782 million despite the month being one day shorter. Visits to ORF.at reached a new high of 1.07 million per day, an increase of 18 percent compared with June 2007.
These top figures also confirm that ORF.at’s up-to-date, high-quality services meet the public’s need for professionally produced and researched journalistic products extremely well.
The number-one success factor in June 2008 was again clearly the comprehensive news service led by news.ORF.at, by far the most-used channel in the ORF.at network, with all relevant information from Austria and abroad. The 7:30 p.m. “ZiB” programme—also available as a live stream—along with “ZiB 20”, “ZiB 2”, “ZiB 24” and the 7:30 p.m. “ZiB” in Austrian Sign Language, also available as a live stream, attracted considerable audience interest with 180,000 on-demand views.
The extensive EURO 2008 specials on sport.ORF.at/euro2008, oesterreich.ORF.at/euro2008 and insider.ORF.at also generated strong demand for their current reports, analyses and multimedia service features, with 25.7 million page impressions in total. EURO live streams—all matches and Austrian Football Association press conferences—were accessed 816,000 times, while insider.ORF.at’s video-on-demand services, including match analyses, player profiles, ORF Box and the fictional documentary “Das Wunder von Wien”, received more than 100,000 views and made a decisive contribution to ORF.at’s success.
The high level of interest in ORF.at’s streaming services overall is a clear sign of the public’s desire—particularly among younger audiences—for ORF television services that can be used online regardless of time and place. This confirms the major importance of linking television and the internet and of the expansion of ORF.at into a multimedia platform, which began a year earlier. Users’ interest in multimedia services was again demonstrated when the governing coalition ended: special ORF television broadcasts and “ZiB” editions made available as live streams on ORF.at on July 7, 2008, as well as the “Aktuelle Stunde” from parliament on July 8, 2008, were accessed more than 16,000 times.
