Ruprecht Polenz Remains Chair of the ZDF Television Council

At its meeting in Mainz on Friday, the ZDF Television Council re-elected Ruprecht Polenz as its chair by a large majority. The 62-year-old CDU member of the Bundestag from Münster has headed the body since 2002.

The election opened the constituent meeting for the 13th term of the ZDF Television Council. The 77-member Television Council establishes guidelines for ZDF broadcasts, monitors compliance and advises the Director-General on programming. The Television Council also elects the Director-General and approves the broadcaster’s budget.

Members of the Television Council are not bound by instructions. The council elected Prof. Dr Maria Böhmer, Dr Angelika Zahrnt and Prof. Michael Schmid-Ospach as deputy chairs. Dr Angelika Niebler was appointed secretary, with Martin Stadelmaier as her deputy. The term of office of the Television Council’s executive committee is two years.
