Developers have created a large number of innovative applications, ranging from games and location-based social-networking features to medical applications and a wide variety of tools for improving business productivity. Customers can download the programs wirelessly directly to their iPhone or iPod touch* and begin using them immediately. More than 800 native applications are currently available in the App Store, 200 of them free, and more than 90 percent are priced below US$10.
“The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days,” says Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store puts them instantly and wirelessly into the hands of every iPhone and iPod touch user.”
Many of these outstanding new applications use the iPhone’s groundbreaking technologies—including its large display, Multi-Touch user interface, fast real-time 3D graphics, built-in accelerometer and location technology—to create mobile applications more powerful than ever before.
The App Store on the iPhone works over both mobile networks and Wi-Fi. This makes it accessible from almost anywhere, allowing users to purchase and download applications wirelessly and begin using them immediately. Programs are either free or charged to the user’s iTunes account. The App Store notifies users when updates for their applications are available. The App Store can also be accessed through the free iTunes application for Mac or PC (www.itunes.de), which synchronises applications to the iPhone or iPod touch via a USB cable.
