“White”: Graduate Designers Present Their Work

Opening at Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences on 25 July, followed by a party.

Thirty-three design students will present their diploma projects to the public with a cosmopolitan, versatile and creative outlook. The communication and media designers will demonstrate what they learned during their studies at Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg.

The exhibition opens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 25 July 2008, in the foyer of the Faculty of Design at Wassertorstrasse 10. As in previous years, committed “design guides” will once again be available to assist visitors.

A small selection of the diploma projects demonstrates how creative the work is:

The dream of eternal beauty and youth has always accompanied humanity. What has changed is that the perfect faces and youthful bodies of the 21st century are produced with scalpels and Botox treatments. Andrea Nusser has captured this beauty, now regarded as normal, through photography.

Using a collage aesthetic and animated drawings, Andreas Kuhn brought to life a small, bizarre story in which fax machines appear from nowhere, wild boars run pretzel stands without much success, and cogwheels pursue a purpose that probably no one but they themselves understands. Visitors can intervene in the action.

The exhibition continues with a music video by Daniela Reuss. The occupant of a room must flee because monsters live there. A mixed technique combining filmed material, ink-and-felt-tip drawings and photographs creates a scenario closely inspired by expressionist silent-film classics of the 1920s.

Lewis Carroll’s children’s classic Alice in Wonderland is among literature’s best-known and most frequently quoted texts. Michael Richter used photography and illustration to give popular motifs from the work a new appearance.

Lydia Fischer puts an end to dusty travel guides and gives young people a “seducer’s guide” to Dresden. She shows young and travel-hungry readers where to find the trendiest clubs and what else contributes to a good time. The 100-page book was illustrated and partly furnished with her own texts.

Dance is one of the best ways to communicate a joy of life and bring people together. Good food is an indispensable part of the experience. The dance restaurant nota piccante offers the perfect atmosphere. Tatjana Phillip created its complete corporate design, including the logo, stationery and corresponding promotional materials such as postcards.

The exhibition is completed by a product design for Aiko chocolate. It comes in seven different Japanese flavors and has a special feature: every variety is lactose-free. Jutta Krauß developed the product’s appearance and designed matching business materials and advertising measures.
