Growing demand for better, programmable graphics has reached the professional notebook market. Designers and developers now work with larger 3D models, images, and datasets. NVIDIA, a leading provider of visualization technologies, is addressing these requirements with a new series of Quadro FX GPUs for mobile workstations. Leading workstation manufacturers including Dell, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, HP, and Lenovo now offer the new series in their professional notebook workstations.

The flagship of the new product series is the Quadro FX 3700M, with 128 parallel CUDA processor cores and 1 GB of dedicated graphics memory. For graphics-intensive applications such as oil and gas exploration, engineering and machine design, or multimedia, the new Quadro GPUs provide desktop-workstation performance in a compact notebook.

The new Quadro FX mobile GPUs are offered by leading computer manufacturers including Dell, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, HP, and Lenovo. These notebooks were developed for high-performance visualization of large datasets at the highest image quality and are certified by independent software vendors. Their features include:

  • Up to 1 GB GDDR3 memory
  • Up to a 256-bit memory interface
  • Up to 51.2 GBps graphics-memory bandwidth
  • OpenGL 2.1, Shader Model 4.0, and DirectX 10

  • PowerMizer power-management tools

The Quadro FX 2700M GPU, with 48 parallel CUDA processor cores and 512 MB of GDDR3 memory, is also an ideal graphics solution for 17-inch platforms used for high-end design and multimedia-content creation. The Quadro FX 1700M with 32 parallel CUDA processor cores, Quadro FX 770M—also with 32 parallel CUDA processor cores—and Quadro FX 370M with eight parallel CUDA processor cores were developed for 15.4- and 14.1-inch notebooks and complete the new range for Intel Centrino II-based platforms. They are particularly suited to extensive CAD and DCC applications.

CUDA is a parallel processor architecture with a C programming environment and tool suite combined with high-performance visualization. CUDA offers new ways to solve complex tasks such as real-time ray tracing, video encoding, and interactive rendering.

Leading notebook-workstation manufacturers use Quadro Mobile:

“By using NVIDIA’s innovative Quadro FX mobile graphics solution, Dell can further expand its market leadership in the next generation of ISV-certified mobile workstations,” said Antonio Julio, director at Dell Product Group. “NVIDIA is a key partner for Dell and helps us meet customer needs with our Dell Precision M4400, M2400, and 17-inch concept that redefines performance and flexibility.”

“The mobile workstations in our new CELSIUS H Series represent the culmination of close collaboration among our research and development, design, and quality-assurance departments,” said Wilhelm Geyer, director of workstations at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “With the NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M, we are continuing our successful cooperation with the market leader in graphics-accelerator technology. This enables us to take mobile graphics performance for computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering to a higher level.”
