Autodesk and Mensch und Maschine have signed an agreement under which Autodesk will acquire the ecscad product line of Elektro-CAE-Software GmbH (ECS), a leading provider of E-CAD software solutions, from the Mensch und Maschine Group. The acquisition expands Autodesk’s range of Digital Prototyping solutions.
The agreement underscores Autodesk’s ambition to become the provider of the market’s most comprehensive and versatile range of electrical engineering and ECAD software. It extends the use of Autodesk ECAD solutions into market segments whose development processes are based on database-oriented methods. The acquisition complements AutoCAD Electrical, which is used for the rapid creation of schematic-based designs. Because both product lines are based on the AutoCAD platform, ecscad and AutoCAD Electrical customers can expect improved functionality and performance in the future. It will also enable the development of more comprehensive tools for designing electrical circuit diagrams. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of Autodesk’s fiscal year, subject to customary conditions including regulatory approval.
“With the acquisition, Autodesk will be able to offer the optimal solution even for the most extensive projects. This completes our offering for European developers of electrical control systems,” said Robert “Buzz” Kross, senior vice president of Autodesk Manufacturing Solutions. “ECS technologies enhance Autodesk’s Digital Prototyping solution. The technology supports a large number of companies in developing digital prototypes that include both mechanical and electrical elements.”
“Expanding Autodesk’s ECAD capabilities with Elektro-CAE software solutions will enable new and better workflows that are not possible with today’s purely drawing-based or database-oriented electrical CAD solutions,” said Günter Manz, managing director of Elektro-CAE-Software GmbH. “By combining ECS and Autodesk solutions, control-system developers will be able to select the tools and methods best suited to their specific development requirements.”
