The laptop, previously code-named “Montevina,” uses an Intel® Mobile Core™ 2 Quad processor and the new TANDBERG Movi software. During the demonstration, the processing power of the Intel Mobile Core 2 Quad-powered laptop was sufficient for both the HD PC videoconference and the simultaneous use of other applications.
“While other vendors sell PC-based videoconferencing systems for private use, we offer a business-quality solution suitable for professional applications,” said Thomas Nicolaus, Managing Director of TANDBERG Central Europe. “With this step, TANDBERG is consolidating its technology leadership. More importantly, however, TANDBERG is increasing mobile employees’ confidence in video communication, enabling the faster decision-making they are accustomed to from desktop, room and telepresence systems.”
TANDBERG Movi is a mobile solution for business-quality, PC-based video applications. Remote workers, commuters, geographically dispersed employees and business travelers can use Movi to conduct face-to-face conversations or participate in meetings while on the move. The new version of Movi, available from the beginning of 2009, is based on industry standards for videoconferencing. Users can therefore connect to any colleague working with a standards-based telepresence, room or desktop system.
“The Intel Mobile Core 2 Quad processor not only has enough processing capacity to conduct HD videoconferences on a laptop. Its high performance also enables the simultaneous use of different applications and programs during a videoconference, making it ideally suited to professional use,” said Dadi Perlmutter, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Mobility Group. “Thanks to our collaboration with the Intel team, TANDBERG was able to optimize its tools so that HD videoconferencing places only a small load on the CPU.” Perlmutter mentioned HD videoconferencing during his opening address at the Intel Developer Forum.
The software in TANDBERG’s PC-based HD videoconferencing systems makes full use of the Intel quad-core mobile processor and the Intel® SSE4 instruction sets. It thereby increases both the performance and energy efficiency of TANDBERG’s world-leading HD codec. In this way, high-definition videoconferencing is also possible in mobile use. Intel® Software Development products enabled Intel and TANDBERG software developers to work together efficiently on an innovative HD PC videoconferencing solution. The Intel® VTune™ Performance Analyzer helped the developers optimize complex code and proved to be a useful tool.
