Players from across Bavaria had an opportunity to qualify for the grand final at Munich’s Tonhalle in Pro Evolution Soccer and compete for attractive prizes. The winners of the final tournament on 12 September 2008 can look forward to hardware prizes including two ASUS laptops. The organisers, BayME and VBM, want the online football cup to reach young people with an affinity for technology, making gamers and esports players an ideal target group. Many of these young people are approaching the end of school and considering career options for the first time.
Bertram Brossardt, Chief Executive of the Bavarian metal-industry employers’ associations BayME and VBM, said: “Good careers guidance is essential when choosing the right training occupation. Our aim is to make the transition from school to vocational training as smooth as possible, which is why we are strongly committed to career guidance. The M+E Online Football Cup provides this through play and in the language of young people.” Under the patronage of the Bavarian Metal and Electrical Employers’ Association and the Bavarian Metal and Electrical Industry Association, AusbildungsOffensive-Bayern.de is active in esports to draw young people’s attention to the attractive training opportunities in the metal and electrical industries.
The Electronic Sports League, Europe’s largest computer-games league with more than 840,000 active players, is organising the final after the cup competitions. Ralf Reichert, Managing Director of league operator Turtle Entertainment, said: “Esports is a young industry and needs well-trained employees. As a training company in the games industry, we are pleased to support the AusbildungsOffensive-Bayern.de project. Esports players are enthusiastic about technology and exceptionally strong team players, making them ideal applicants for metal and electrical companies.”
The final winners of the 2008 Bavarian M+E Online Football Cup will be crowned on 12 September during the ESL Pro Series esports league event at Munich’s Tonhalle.
