“The ND2725 supports two very important broadcast video cameras, the Sony PMW-EX1 and Panasonic HVX200, both professional television cameras. Broadcast cameras generally use only manufacturer-specific storage media, which are considerably more expensive than the ND-2725. For example, a 16 GB memory card for the Sony PMW-EX1 costs around €700, while we supply the Nexto ND-2725 with 500 GB for €1,199. That is an enormous price difference, and the Sony EX1 is one of the most widely used broadcast HD cameras in Germany,” says Eugen Golotov, marketing director at specialist storage-products distributor ISTEGO Distribution GmbH, which distributes Nexto products exclusively in Germany.
Photographers and video users can back up their data with the Nexto ND2725 at speeds of up to 66 MB/s for CF or 25 MB/s for SDHC. Just 40 seconds are required for 1 GB using 300x CF. The compact ND2725 video storage device is protected by a robust aluminium enclosure. Weighing only 130 g without a hard drive, it is light enough for any bag. Its card slot fully supports all current memory-card formats, including CF I/II, SD, SDHC, MMC, MMCPlus, MemoryStick, MS Pro-HG, MS Pro MagicGate and xD types S, M and H. Smaller cards can be used with an optional 17-in-1 adapter. All data can also be copied directly to the ND2725 hard drive through an OTG USB 2.0 interface. With OTG USB, users can connect other storage devices such as USB sticks, or a camera with mass-storage support, directly to the ND2725 and transfer data in either direction without a PC. As one of the few devices on the market, the Nexto ND2725 also offers a 60 MB/s eSATA interface, approximately twice as fast as USB 2.0.
The easy-to-use file-management system allows users to browse and organise data flexibly. Functions such as Autocopy and Automove make backing up memory cards even easier. A hardware-based Verify function ensures backup integrity.
The device also impresses with its long battery life, which is essential for field use: up to 60 GB of data can be transferred on a single charge, safely copying even several hours of HD video recording. For users who need more, the external battery included in the package allows another 80 GB to be copied. The device also has overvoltage control to protect against voltage spikes. Power Save mode switches it off automatically after 30 seconds of inactivity. The integrated display has a backlight.
