Computer and video games have reached the centre of society at least since this year, as demonstrated not least by their recognition as cultural assets by the German Cultural Council in August 2008. High growth rates also make the market attractive to the advertising industry.
But where do the risks of this new form of advertising lie? What new tasks and challenges do the changed conditions create for advertising oversight? Alongside the obvious differences, are there also similarities with broadcasting? Company representatives will discuss these and other questions with independent experts and media regulators at a workshop held during the World Cyber Games 2008 in Cologne. Dr Christian Stöcker of Spiegel Online will guide participants through the programme.
