German film history spans more than a hundred years. From the very beginning, Munich has been the setting for major feature films. Clips and sets from Lola Montez, Go for It, Baby, Sophie Scholl – The Final Days and A Year Ago in Winter, to name just a few, offer an insight into the city’s impressive portrayal on screen. A bus specially equipped with monitors and DVD technology for the tour will visit real locations around the city. At each stop, passengers will be able to watch on the bus screens the feature-film scenes shot at that location.
The tour was initiated by the FFF Film Commission Bayern and Berlin agency VideoBustour. It is supported by the City of Munich’s Department of Arts and Culture and FilmFernsehFonds Bayern. Anja Metzger of Film Commission Bayern said: “We want to give the state capital back its cinematic face. Residents and visitors should feel that they are at home in a film city.”
Dr Klaus Schaefer, managing director of FFF Bayern, said: “The VideoBustour also promotes Munich as a production location. As such, current productions can use it for public relations. We are delighted to support an event that benefits local residents, tourists and the film industry itself.”
