Annual Congress for Internet-Based Television

IPTV 2008 will take place from 8 to 10 December at Gastwerk in Hamburg.

IPTV is a future technology for internet-based television, with video content available on demand for viewing on internet-connected televisions or a new generation of mobile devices. Growth rates are substantial: by the end of 2009, IPTV is expected to account for 9.4 percent of the European pay-TV market, putting it well on the way to becoming a serious competitor to cable and satellite operators. IPTV development is being driven primarily by telecommunications companies and major brands using IPTV services to convey their brand experience.

Leading telecommunications providers have already launched linear IPTV services in Germany, offering users and broadcasters significant added value through greater variety and interaction. Responding to this rapid development, organizer DEUTSCHE KONGRESS is providing IPTV Congress 2008 as a platform for reviewing IPTV strategies and obtaining well-founded information about market development.

The event will feature reports from well-known companies on successful IPTV financing models, opening up new sales and revenue channels, customer acquisition, and developments in the legal and technical framework. Under the theme “The Future of Television Today—Strategies and Services from Successful First Movers,” the event begins with a half-day seminar on 8 December. Hardy Heine, owner of Consulting & More / Media & Broadband, will lead a detailed session on how successful IPTV business models can be developed and brought to market.

Following the welcome, the congress begins on 9 December with a keynote by Professor Klaus Goldhammer, Managing Director of Goldmedia GmbH, on “Future Trends in IPTV and TV 2.0—The Market in Figures.” It will be followed by numerous practical reports, including Gabriele Lemmle, Marketing Manager at BMW Group, on “BMWweb.tv—Making the Brand Tangible,” and Jan-Dieter Schaap, Director E-Business at Douglas Beauty GmbH, presenting “Douglas.TV—How Do I Reach Customers with IPTV?”

Christian Nienaber, Head of Video at RTL interactive GmbH, will discuss the development of RTL’s internet-based video offering. GfK Panel Services Deutschland GmbH will present a market analysis of IPTV awareness, interest in use and user potential. In the closing keynote, “IPTV—What Does the Customer Want?”, Professor Michel Clement of the Institute for Marketing and Media at the University of Hamburg will summarize the current situation.

The full-day seminar on 10 December 2008 addresses “IPTV Services and Projects: Market-Oriented Planning, Legally Compliant Design and Technical Implementation of IPTV.” Mark Polderman, consulting engineer and owner of Büro für neues Fernsehen, will lead the seminar. Around a dozen companies will present products and solutions at the accompanying trade exhibition.

All event modules, seminar days and the congress day can be booked separately.
