Sony’s comprehensive SONAPS Network Production System has successfully gone live at N24’s new capital-city studio at Potsdamer Platz. The news channel has opened a new chapter: introducing SONAPS connected editorial and production technology, making completely digital package production possible for the daily live program.
Europe’s currently most advanced news channel was created across 7,400 square meters. When broadcasting began at the end of October, the programming was also converted completely to the 16:9 picture format. N24 is therefore the first German private broadcaster to transmit its entire schedule in widescreen. At its new Potsdamer Platz location, N24 produces not only its own 24-hour programming but also the daily news for Sat.1, ProSieben and kabel eins. “Alongside the newsroom system, SONAPS is one of the essential pillars of our new system environment at Potsdamer Platz,” explained Frank Meißner, N24 Managing Director for Production and Technology. “With this production system, the newsroom operates at what is currently the most advanced level of package production in European news television.”
At N24, up to 40 journalists can simultaneously access the SONAPS system’s central content from their workstations. Sony’s flexible XPRI NS editing system was integrated for processing. Its interface can be individually adapted and personalized, giving every user precisely the functions they need and can operate—from basic viewing and rough-cut features to complete professional tools for sophisticated post-production.
SONAPS also connects television and online newsrooms so news can now be produced in parallel for television, the website and mobile services. This makes N24 even faster, more flexible and more effective, consolidating its market position and creating the basis for further growth. The systems were installed at N24 in just ten months. Sony Professional’s Solutions Management team in Cologne was responsible for integrating SONAPS.
