At CES in Las Vegas, leading display manufacturers, PC OEMs, system integrators and game developers announced their support for NVIDIA’s “3D Vision for GeForce,” the first high-definition stereoscopic 3D solution for consumers.
3D Vision combines high-tech wireless glasses, a powerful IR emitter and innovative software that automatically converts hundreds of PC games into stereoscopic 3D.
“Together with gaming innovations in Microsoft Windows and DirectX, NVIDIA 3D Vision proves there has never been a better time for gamers. With support for previous and upcoming Windows games, PC gamers can experience a new level of stereoscopic 3D and enjoy the hottest games in a new dimension,” emphasized Corey Rosemond, Group Marketing Manager for Windows Gaming.
“There is no doubt that stereoscopic 3D is a very interesting step in 3D technology and will bring crucial improvements to PC games. The moment you put on NVIDIA’s 3D Vision glasses, the visual world comes alive,” explained Peter Hammer of Ubisoft EMEA.
Powered by NVIDIA GeForce GPUs, 3D Vision is the world’s first high-definition stereoscopic 3D solution for the consumer market.
3D Vision essentially consists of the following elements:
Wireless Shutter Glasses
Based on outstanding optics, the glasses offer twice the resolution and significantly wider viewing angles than passive glasses. Comfortable to wear and styled like modern sunglasses, they are a fashionable alternative to conventional 3D glasses.
Powerful USB-Based IR Emitter
Transmits data directly to active shutter glasses within a radius of six meters.
Display Flexibility
Works with any 120 Hz LCD display.
Out-of-the-Box Game Compatibility
NVIDIA software automatically converts more than 300 games into stereoscopic 3D. NVIDIA’s “The Way It’s Meant to Be Played” program also ensures future games support 3D Vision. 3D Vision is the only stereoscopic 3D solution supporting NVIDIA SLI, NVIDIA PhysX and Microsoft DirectX 10.
Long Runtime on a Single Charge
A single charge via a standard USB cable provides more than 40 hours of continuous stereoscopic 3D gaming. If the glasses are unused for ten minutes, they switch off automatically to extend battery life.
Support for Stereoscopic 3D Photography and Movies
A free 3D Vision Viewer is included, enabling users to capture screenshots within games and view them in stereoscopic 3D, or import 3D images and videos from various sources.
3D Vision is expected to be available in Germany from February.
