PROFI Engineering Systems AG has successfully supported the trend toward digitization in the broadcast and media sector for many years. On 20 January, the company is inviting customers and interested parties to an event where IT experts will demonstrate how digitization can simplify workflows and reduce costs in the media industry.
At Bavaria Film GmbH, Bavariafilmplatz 7, Studio 8, 82031 Geiselgasteig, the Darmstadt-based IT company will present MXFserver.net for Avid environments and the A.D.A.M. application.
To give visitors an up-to-date overview of the latest technology trends in the media industry, the event’s organizer will follow the 10 a.m. welcome with a series of presentations on the possibilities and benefits of digitization. PROFI AG speakers will show exclusive solutions that enhance proprietary environments from well-known manufacturers with appliances based on standard IT and add entirely new functions. Speakers and participants will then discuss the facts presented.
Material eXchange Format (MXF) is an open standardized format for broadcast video files.
Using MXF in an Avid editing environment offers numerous advantages. Unlike tape-based video formats, file-based handling simplifies work with professional video formats. Database indexing on MXFserver—unlike the Media Pool concept—is project-based. The SQL databases are easier to manage because they relate to projects rather than media pools, avoiding fragmentation and long search times.
“Partial recalls are also performed much faster, and time-consuming database reorganizations are virtually eliminated. Users do not need export or import managers because projects are managed with simple Windows functions. In addition to dramatically reducing license costs, MXFserver also permits tiered use of different storage technologies,” explained Jörg Sondermann of PROFI AG.
With A.D.A.M., Jordi AG has found a way to digitize and log videotapes of any format automatically. The system accepts cassettes in all Sony Beta formats and digitizes them into an IT-compatible digital file. Similar events in Hürth near Cologne and Potsdam attracted strong interest.
