Both CATPart and CATProduct files can be imported, as can solid and surface data into Autodesk Inventor 2009. CATIA V5 versions R6 through R18 are supported. The new interface offers particular advantages for automotive suppliers whose customers use different CAD systems. It eliminates the detour via STEP and the need to purchase additional programs.
“Through its Digital Prototyping strategy, Autodesk aims to provide the most powerful CAD solutions for designers and developers. By adding a direct CATIA V5 interface to Autodesk Inventor 2009, we are giving our customers a new feature that supports their daily work while saving time and money,” explained Wolfgang Lynen, Industry Marketing Manager Manufacturing at Autodesk.
In addition to the new CATIA V5 interface, Autodesk Inventor supports numerous other formats, including Pro/E, Granite, SolidWorks, NX and Parasolid. Other useful add-ons, such as iMap and Shrinkwrap, can also be downloaded from Autodesk Labs: http://labs.autodesk.com
