Eleven-year-old Philipp (Karl Alexander Seidel), known as Lippel, travels from the Bavarian city of Passau to the Orient without a flying carpet. Because his father, celebrity chef Otto Mattenheim (Moritz Bleibtreu), is away on business, the new housekeeper Mrs Jakob (Anke Engelke) looks after Lippel. But she turns out to be a petty terror to children. At night, Lippel escapes into an oriental dream world in which his father, Mrs Jakob and two classmates also appear in strange ways. Lippel experiences extraordinary adventures in the Orient. His dreams help him and his classmates drive the wicked Mrs Jakob out of the house and rescue his new friend, the stray dog Muck.
