BAF Invites Viewers Behind the Media

Franz Xaver Gernstl opens this year’s student talk show “Unter Medienleuten” at BAF on February 5, 2009.

Documentary filmmaker Franz Xaver Gernstl will open this year’s student talk show “Unter Medienleuten” on February 5, 2009, in BAF’s teaching studio. The 45-minute program will be recorded live on tape before a large audience, giving students the opportunity to interview well-known media professionals in a studio setting. Previous guests included political journalist Claus Kleber, Helmut Markwort, Barbara Dickmann and Günther Jauch.

Gernstl, known for the Bavarian Broadcasting series “Gernstl unterwegs,” has received the Bavarian Television Award and the Adolf Grimme Award several times. For students, the production marks a step from small-team work to a broadcast format requiring 67 roles, from production coordination and studio cameras through presentation.

The animation class spent six weeks producing the program package. Recorded segments also had to be developed, researched, filmed and edited before the studio recording began at 7:00 PM on February 5.
