Consumer-electronics group Toshiba is presenting itself as a supporter of emerging talent. The company says it is launching the Camileo P10 “to enable aspiring video artists to finance a camcorder with 1080p HD video resolution.”
The 175-gram compact camera has a 7 mm fixed-focus lens and a 2.5-inch colour LCD with 960 × 240 pixels. An HDMI port and supplied HDMI cable connect it to an HD television; the device also has Mini-USB and TV interfaces.
The Easy YouTube Upload application in the ArcSoft software bundle is designed to let filmmakers upload videos in a few simple steps. The camera records at 30 fps in HD mode 1 (1080p) and HD mode 2 (720p), and at 60 fps in WVGA format (848 × 480 pixels). Files are stored as H.264/MOV video in the built-in 128 MB flash memory, expandable to 32 GB via SD card. Still images have a maximum resolution of five megapixels.
Toshiba says the compact camcorder is particularly easy to handle and offers intuitive operation. It is available now at a recommended retail price of €139 including VAT.
