Autodesk announced more than 50 updates across its 2010 design and engineering portfolio, including AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit product families.

“Autodesk creates the foundation for an improved design process,” said CEO Carl Bass. He said the 2010 software helped customers implement ideas digitally and efficiently.

AutoCAD 2010

AutoCAD added free-form 3D design tools, PDF import and underlay, improved publishing, constraint-based parametric drawing, and support for 3D printing through service providers or local printers. AutoCAD LT improved PDF input and output and added 2D drawing tools.

Digital Prototyping

Inventor 2010 improved 3D design, 2D drawing, simulation, plastics development, data management, and exchange.

Other releases included updated interfaces for AutoCAD Mechanical, improvements to electrical-schematic design in AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Alias for Mac, Moldflow 2010, Showcase 2010 with integrated ray tracing, and Vault 2010 document-management functions.

Architecture, Engineering, and Construction

Revit Architecture 2010 and Revit Structure 2010 added design and structural tools and a consistent interface. BIM workflows supported visualization, simulation, analysis, and resource-efficient infrastructure.

Civil 3D 2010 supported civil, transport, and terrain planning. Navisworks combined and reviewed detailed models from project partners. The portfolio also included AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD MEP, AutoCAD Civil, and 3ds Max Design 2010.

Infrastructure Modeling

Updated products included AutoCAD Map 3D, Raster Design, MapGuide Enterprise, and Topobase 2010. Map 3D used open-source FDO technology to access multiple geodata sources. Raster Design gained Citrix support, while MapGuide Enterprise and Topobase improved web performance and underground-asset visualization.

The releases were expected in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland during spring 2009.
