Stefan Lemper joined cooee GmbH’s management team. He had spent seven years at venture-capital company Aurelia Private Equity, most recently as Managing Director responsible for internet, media, and software investments. He joined cooee as Managing Director for Finance and Business Development, bringing investment and startup experience.
“As a venture capitalist, one sees many startups, but few are convincing enough to receive investment,” Lemper said. “From the start, I was certain Club Cooee had the potential to become an internationally scalable leader in a new category. The initial performance indicators support that assessment.”
Torsten Jüngling joined the company’s advisory board. The former Managing Director of youth-oriented virtual world Habbo Hotel said: “Club Cooee closely matches the communication habits of young people and young adults. Its graphics are strong and the interface is clear and user-friendly. I want to support cooee with my experience from Habbo Hotel and see considerable potential in the project.”
Club Cooee’s founders described the appointments as further professionalization as the open-beta phase ended. Alexander Jorias said Lemper completed the management team’s expertise for international expansion. Ingo Frick described Jüngling’s experience in the target market as valuable for future development.
Club Cooee transfers instant messaging into a 3D online world embedded directly into the desktop and running alongside other applications. Users communicate through customizable avatars and express themselves through animations including dancing, cheering, and waving. Each avatar has a room that can be decorated and used to host friends.
Users can add or exchange music, images, and video, creating a personal multimedia chat environment. Websites can be linked to objects such as virtual laptops.
cooee had cooperated with Bigpoint.com since March 2009. In a Bigpoint lobby, users could follow direct links to games and discuss achievements. A shop offered fan items for Bigpoint games.
