ArcSoft SimHD is an upscaling technology intended to convert standard-definition multimedia files and DVDs to near-HD quality in real time. SimHD uses NVIDIA CUDA for video upscaling, applying massively parallel GPU processing rather than relying on the CPU alone.
TotalMedia Theatre uses PC graphics processors to supply the computing performance required by SimHD’s post-processing algorithms. ArcSoft described NVIDIA GPUs as the only processors capable of running those algorithms in real time. SimHD supported NVIDIA GeForce 8-series GPUs and later.
“The upscaling software lets users watch conventional DVDs on a PC at near-HD quality,” said George Tang, Vice President and General Manager of ArcSoft’s Video and Home Entertainment Group. “Our partnership with NVIDIA is an important step in delivering that experience with low computational overhead.”
