Corbis launched a new Corbis Motion website with expanded functionality and tens of thousands of rights-managed, royalty-free, and high-definition clips. The site was available in German for the first time.
Ten Times More Footage through Thought Equity Motion
Corbis Motion expanded from roughly 30,000 to 300,000 clips. A partnership with Thought Equity Motion added content from Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, National Geographic, Sony Pictures Entertainment, HBO Archives, and Smithsonian Channel.
The collection included nearly 150,000 HD clips and 80,000 royalty-free clips, licensed once for continued use in approved media. Corbis planned to add thousands of current clips regularly.
Website and Customer Experience
The new site combined search, purchasing, and real-time delivery. Customers could buy and download footage online.
Additional functions included:
• Search technology grouping relevant clips into sets
• Click-free previews opening when the pointer moved over an image
• Views of different camera angles and sequences from a scene
• Immediate purchase and download in HD, PAL, and NTSC for broadcast, streaming, video podcasts, LED displays, and billboards
• Frame-accurate comps for evaluating edits before purchase, with previous edits automatically applied to the master file
The site supported English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, and Japanese. Transactions were available in US dollars, euros, pounds sterling, Canadian dollars, Australian dollars, and PayPal.
Customer Service, Image Research, and Rights Clearance
Corbis Motion continued to provide thematic and conceptual footage research. Its GreenLight rights service at http://www.greenlightrights.com could negotiate clearance for people, personalities, trademarks, landmarks, music, and other intellectual property appearing in clips.
