Autodesk introduced AutoCAD 2010, AutoCAD LT 2010, and the 2010 editions of its AutoCAD-based industry applications. AutoCAD serves as a 2D and 3D design and documentation platform, while AutoCAD LT provides 2D drafting and detailing.
Industry editions included AutoCAD Architecture 2010, AutoCAD MEP for building systems, AutoCAD Civil 2010 for civil engineering, AutoCAD Map 2010 for GIS, and AutoCAD Mechanical.
The releases add free-form design, parametric drawing, and improved PDF support. Autodesk said development focused on simplifying and improving user workflows.
AutoCAD 2010 adds tools for documenting, communicating, analysing, and adapting design ideas. Free-form tools support analysis of complex 3D forms. PDF import, PDF underlays, and improved publishing extend two-way communication across design teams.
Constraint-based parametric drawing lets users define relationships between objects and accelerate design revision. AutoCAD 2010 also supports 3D printing through on-demand services or local printers for physical models and prototypes.
“Our primary objective with the 2010 release is to give customers powerful design tools for exploring new creative limits,” said Guri Stark, Vice President of AutoCAD and Platform Products. “We have also expanded the portfolio with functions that simplify customer workflows.”
AutoCAD 2010 Industry Applications
• AutoCAD Architecture 2010 adds workflow, usability, and interoperability improvements, including a redesigned interface, larger drawing window, and faster access to tools and commands.
• AutoCAD Civil 2010 adds interface improvements, a more complete survey workflow, and road-intersection modelling for engineers, planners, and surveyors.
$$$$
• AutoCAD Electrical 2010 adds a redesigned environment and a one-line circuit symbol library. Circuit Builder improvements help engineers analyse circuit energy efficiency.
• AutoCAD Map 3D 2010 adds survey functions, improved data analysis, and a workflow concept for creating and managing geospatial data.
• AutoCAD Mechanical 2010 expands automated drafting, improves the design environment, and adds bill-of-materials enhancements.
• AutoCAD MEP 2010 improves performance, adds sloped-piping tools and more piping options, and simplifies creation of block-based MvParts from solids and mass elements.
• AutoCAD P&ID 2010 improves the interface, adds curved schematic lines, and expands project setup for piping and equipment diagrams.
AutoCAD LT 2010
AutoCAD LT 2010 provides 2D drafting and detailing. The release improves PDF input and output and adds commands for displaying and editing drawings, including ALIGN, Xref, and Block Attribute.
Users of Autodesk products including the AutoCAD 2010 family could download Autodesk Design Review 2010 free from http://www.autodesk.de. Design Review supplies tools for reviewing, marking, and tracking documents in a digital review process, with added PDF viewing and markup support.
Availability
The AutoCAD 2010 product family was scheduled for spring 2009 availability in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
