German production company Digitrick won the Best Foreign Animated Series prize for The Moffels, selected from 70 international series at the fifth International Cartoon & Animation Festival in Hangzhou, China.
Digitrick, whose name combines the new digital world and its technical possibilities with a love of traditional animation, was founded in 1992. A team led by the creative married couple Wanie had since worked to turn static drawings into animated characters with an almost lifelike appearance. Drawing on experience in graphics, design, multimedia, film and animation production, the company developed pragmatic client solutions based on ideas, concepts and innovative technologies.
Sabrina Wanie had also established a reputation as a professor at the German Filmschool for Digital Production. Digitrick’s best-known work included the mouse spots created with illustrator Sinan Güngör for Die Sendung mit der Maus and the adventure series Tikitonga.
The company received another distinction on April 28 at the fifth International Cartoon & Animation Festival in Hangzhou, taking the Monkey King Award. Digitrick’s in-house production The Moffels was named Best Foreign Animated Series 2009. The children’s series, in which young Luzie experiences fantastic adventures with three intergalactic half-fairies called the Moffels, prevailed over 70 international series in competition.
Beginning May 10, Digitrick’s Moffels were scheduled to air each Sunday in Unser Sandmännchen. The programme celebrated its 50th anniversary in November 2009 and was broadcast daily on rbb Fernsehen, KI.KA and MDR Fernsehen.
