Craft Animations AB and Realtime Technology AG announced a strategic alliance to provide design and visualisation professionals with real-time 3D animation tools, including a planned port of Craft Director Tools to RTT DeltaGen. Combining Craft’s ease of use and precision with DeltaGen’s flexibility and photorealism allowed users to add realistic movement to interactive design visualisations within minutes.
RTT co-founder and board member Ludwig A. Fuchs said the companies expected their technologies to create synergies beyond the existing real-time visualisation market.
Industrial designers used RTT DeltaGen for high-quality interactive 3D prototypes in automotive and aircraft design, product development and marketing. Craft Director Tools—including Camera Tools, Vehicles, Accessories and Freeware—reduced reliance on keyframing and scripting, shortening production times by up to 90%.
Craft Director Tools for RTT DeltaGen offered:
- Vehicle movement across terrain with natural dynamics such as suspension
- Control by steering wheel, 3D mouse or autopilot
- Switching camera settings to highlight design details
- Camera-view control inside RTT DeltaGen
- Environment or terrain switching
- Changes to vehicle mechanics and behaviour
Craft Animations founder and research director Luigi Tramontana said designers had avoided animation because accurate physical demonstrations were time-consuming and required specialist knowledge. Integrating Craft Director Tools removed that obstacle and enabled cinematic presentations.
Craft Director Tools for RTT DeltaGen were scheduled for late 2009.
