FKTG, together with Fraunhofer IDMT and MCS Thüringen, organised the fifth Thuringian Media Seminar, “Good Sound for Beautiful Pictures” – Audio for HDTV and Digital Cinema.
Increasing numbers of households were equipped with multichannel technology, while multichannel audio broadcasting was becoming more widespread. Unlike image formats, audio offered several alternatives in both coding and the arrangement and number of loudspeakers. Beyond the conventional horizontal arrangement of sound sources, innovative formats reproduced the distance and height of sound events naturally, considerably extending envelopment and spatial experience. Recording and producing the necessary content placed new demands on sound engineers while offering many creative possibilities.
At the seminar, FKTG, Fraunhofer IDMT and MCS Thüringen intended to address every aspect of multichannel sound for HDTV and digital cinema. Alongside recording, production and transmission technology, creative considerations were also to be discussed.
IRT contributed a presentation:
