Future production sports cars raced around a digital circuit in a driving simulator, oversized touchscreens displayed configuration solutions, and sophisticated camera systems blended virtual product models with real environments. High-tech solutions from technology partners and RTT’s industry-leading software suite powered presentations in themed lounges surrounding Munich’s Alte Kongresshalle, where design and marketing professionals from around the world explored practical high-end visualisation applications.

The focus was on new developments reflecting current technical capabilities while identifying emerging trends. Virtual-marketing pioneers including Toyota Motor Europe, Ferrari and aviation newcomer ICON Aircraft presented current work under the theme “Sharing Visions.” Their talks described challenges arising from VR-driven changes to workflows across the product lifecycle. The RTT Emerging Technology Contest 2009 awards also took place. Organised by RTT and partner NVIDIA, the international research competition gave winning teams an opportunity to present innovative projects.

Special sessions condensed the technological and creative developments. Expert panels discussed CGI in virtual prototyping and marketing and placed it in the context of present and future social developments.

Futurists Syd Mead, known for Blade Runner and Mission: Impossible III, and former BMW Head of Design Chris Bangle provided a highlight. Their presentations explained working methods and showed how combining traditional techniques with CGI in the design process could create new solutions.

RTT founders and board members Ludwig A. Fuchs and Christoph Karrasch welcomed the response. “Our theme addressed a central concern of our audience,” Fuchs said. “In accelerating global markets, visions are essential to realising market opportunities.” Karrasch added that high-end visualisation opened new communication possibilities from development and design through marketing and sales, and that the conference demonstrated changes RTT’s solutions could enable in coming years.
