Munich’s first BarCamp for the games industry takes place on June 20–21, 2009 at Microsoft Deutschland GmbH’s headquarters in Unterschleißheim. The GameCamp Munich 2009 unconference is open to everyone working professionally with games who wants to participate in current industry discussions. Registration is required at http://www.gamecampmunich.de.
For two days, participants discuss, present and network according to the BarCamp principle. Everyone is encouraged to prepare a discussion topic and organise a session. At the beginning of each day, participants meet in the lobby to decide the order of proposed topics and organise their unconference. A relaxed after-show party follows the first day, allowing informal networking. Gamers are also catered for, with music, refreshments, computers and consoles of all kinds.
Participation is free. Additional sponsors and supporters of every size are being sought to finance catering, infrastructure and other costs. If a significant financial surplus remains after the event, it will be donated to the non-profit Munich association Videospielkultur e.V. to support professional engagement with games in Munich. The organisers themselves run GameCamp pro bono.
Microsoft Deutschland GmbH is the first official sponsor. It provides its Unterschleißheim headquarters free of charge, making the event possible. GameCamp will occupy the lobby, cafeteria, coffee lounge and several large conference rooms across two floors.
Interested visitors are asked to register on the GameCamp website as confirmed participants or non-binding interested parties to assist planning. As is usual for BarCamps, the event is open to any interesting talk about games. All participants are encouraged to hold sessions, join discussions and report through Twitter, blogs and other channels.
