The two new partners strengthen Panasonic’s third-party support offering in Europe and expand the choice of software and workflow solutions for broadcasters using P2 technology.
Panasonic introduced its file-based P2 technology in 2004, offering efficiency gains over conventional tape-based technology. Since then, Panasonic has built a network of third-party partners supporting P2 with products and solutions that provide customers with substantial time and cost benefits in editing and managing content.
Markus Naegele, IT Integration Product Manager at Panasonic, explains: “Panasonic is always seeking to expand its strategic partnerships. For our customers, this means access to extensive technology and expertise for meeting their content-related requirements. Panasonic welcomes its new partners OpenCube and DVS and looks forward to further developing these business relationships.”
OpenCube has been a Panasonic partner since 2005 and provides a range of beneficial solutions for IT-based content creation, including more efficient video-compression methods. Major European broadcasters use OpenCube’s adaptable P2 software to manage daily workflow processes such as automated ingest, FTP uploads and simple editing. The latest version of OpenCube’s P2Soft software now also supports Panasonic AVC-I (Advanced Video Codec-Intra) technology, giving broadcasters and professional users even greater flexibility and interoperability for P2 content. This improved support for Panasonic technology was a key reason OpenCube received its current status as a certified member of the P2 Alliance Network.
“We are seeing considerable industry interest in our solution, and this helped us become an official Panasonic P2 Alliance partner,” explains OpenCube Managing Director Benoit Fevrier. “We believe it is important that customers recognise the benefits of P2 technology as they seek better ways to generate and manage content. That is precisely what our efficient solutions were designed to provide.”
DVS products and workstations are used in broadcast production and post-production applications as well as high-end digital film production. Its partnership with Panasonic results from newly developed interoperability and support solutions for P2 clips. These work with several DVS solutions, including the new VENICE video server and award-winning CLIPSTER workstation. VENICE serves not only as a video server for ingest and playout of different video and file formats but also provides fast, secure RAID storage at affordable cost, accessible to other clients such as NLE systems.
DVS Product Manager Konstantin Schinas comments: “Broadcasters today face particular requirements for timely content delivery while maintaining high quality and flexibility. Our support for Panasonic P2 media gives broadcasters a broader choice and opens many additional possibilities for moving to a tapeless, file-based workflow environment. We intend to build on this by supporting P2 across all our turnkey products, from CLIPSTER and VENICE to the Pronto family of disk recorders.”
For many companies, local partner status provides the basis for qualifying as a member of the Panasonic Alliance Network. These partnerships aim both to develop and implement new functionality and to expand the possibilities for integrating P2HD or AVCHD with a range of applications, solutions and workflows.
