Multimedia degree programmes as a starting point for a professional career are more popular than ever. This is demonstrated not only by rising enrolment at SAE Institute, the world’s largest educational institution in audio, digital film and animation, web design and development, and game design.
Current nationwide events such as May’s Open Day and Day of Music also show young people’s enormous interest in practical professional education at one of SAE’s seven German locations. An internal student survey found that precisely these learning methods, close industry connections and access to potential employers make SAE education attractive.
Trend Barometer: Open Day
More than 1,500 visitors attended the Open Day held in mid-May at SAE Institutes in Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Cologne, Frankfurt and Munich. Talks, presentations and personal discussions with instructors informed them about educational opportunities.
Visitors were visibly impressed by the technical facilities. Whether working in sound, video, animation or games, students have modern studio equipment available throughout their education at every SAE Institute. Increasing internationalisation in the media industry is another incentive, for which SAE’s global exchange programmes can prepare students well. Those holding an SAE Diploma can complete a subsequent bachelor’s degree at numerous locations abroad. In Germany, internationally recognised Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Science (Honours) degrees are awarded in cooperation with Middlesex University London.
Good Marks for SAE Institute
The positive impression among visitors reflects the mood of SAE students in a recent institute-wide survey. Practical education and the broad range of subjects enabling graduates to develop into creative multimedia generalists received particular praise.
Rainer Schwarz, Director of SAE Institute Munich, says: “We place great importance on educating students in a solution- and goal-oriented way. Practice and experience often count more than theory alone.” Especially in the media industry, entrants are expected already to master relevant technical equipment or specialist software. “Our aim is therefore to prepare students as well as possible,” Schwarz says.
SAE is unique not only for its strong practical emphasis. Its in-house approach to selecting instructors also differs from conventional institutions. Teaching positions are generally filled only by people who have successfully completed SAE studies and possess extensive professional experience. This ensures experienced graduates’ expertise is passed on. Students consequently rate teaching quality very highly.
Götz Hannemann, Head of Marketing at SAE Germany, says: “Regular surveys of SAE students are an important tool for identifying weaknesses and continually improving the high quality of education. The exceptionally strong response to the recent survey confirms that SAE Institutes’ educational concept works.”
Those wanting a closer look at SAE education without waiting for the next Open Day in August can attend introductory courses at all seven branches during next weekend’s nationwide Day of Music. Registration is available at http://www.sae.edu.
